The proposal wants to reinterpret the oval form as an EMBRACE for the burners. The formal reference is the BAROQUE Bernini’s San Pietro square, where the columns embrace the pilgrims coming to the Basilica.
The oval is based on two circles, each one host at its center a reference camp.
The whole composition is built on a main AXIS. It starts at the entrance gate, points at the burning man and ends at the temple, in the deep playa. The main axis is built from SW to NE.
The SUN IS RISING AND SETTING ON IT.
The burning man stands in the center of the oval as a VISUAL REFERENCE from every radial street.
To underline the importance of the central reference point, the perspective sketch is inspired by Bruno Taut’s Stadtkrone (crown of the city). A communal center modeled after the medieval cathedral or temple crowned Taut’s city as THE BURNING MAN IS CROWNING BLACK ROCK CITY.
